VHF
Radio Course

It is required that operators of a vessel based in
Canadian waters with a VHF radiotelephone must possess a Restricted
Operator’s Certificate certified by Industry Canada. This
is necessary information for all VHF radio operators. It
is imperative that you can communicate with the Coast Guard
efficiently and clearly in an emergency or a serious situation.
Any
person who operates a radio in the Marine Bands without the
appropriate certificate or authorization is liable, upon summary
conviction, to a penalty not to exceed five thousand dollars
($5,000.00) and or imprisonment for a term not to exceed twelve (12)
months.
Our VHF radio course
to receive your Restricted Operator's
Certificate - Maritime is a home-study program. The
manual will provide you with the basics needed to successfully
complete the exam. There will be no class instruction for this course except for a review with
the certified instructor prior to the administration of the exam.
Any questions may be asked at this time. Be well prepared before you come to take the exam.
Upon passing this exam you will receive your required
Restricted
Operator's Certificate - Maritime that will entitle
you to
operate marine radios on voluntarily fitted vessels which include
pleasure craft, fishing vessels under 24 metres, Canadian naval
craft, and towboats under 5 tons. It
is valid for the lifetime of the holder.
